Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Standard

Today was a perfect autumnal Sunday. It started with a nice lie-in (with no guilt as all the housework was done on Saturday), followed by a breakfast and coffee. I then spent most of the day spinning and finished off watching season 4 of Supernatural. We had beef stew and dumplings cooked in the slow cooker for dinner and then started watching season4 of Bones.
Spinning was fantastic, I hadn’t spent that long in front of the wheel for ages and forgot just how relaxing it is. I started by finishing of last bobbin of singles for my sweater yarn (hopefully I can get it plied this week) and then started spinning the roving in the picture – scrumptious (merino/silk) from Fyberspates. I had never spun anything with silk in before and it took a little getting used to. I am spinning it on the second for fastest ratio on my wheel and it is spinning up like a dream, and nice and fine. The two braids whilst no identical are fraternal twins and I plan to ply the them together, so one ply will be lighter and more green than the other darker more blue one. If I could find mt camera cable I would post photos of the singles on the bobbin. They have so much shine and lustre, and the dark blue/purple is reminiscent of the colour of ink from a biro when it leaks out of the top.

People always remark that knitting/spinning is relaxing and calming, and I do find it is, which is why I can see alot of fibre play happening our house over the next few weeks – Karl is going to try and quit smoking. He has an appointment with the nurse at our GP clinic tomorrow to discuss the best plan for him, but has being trying to cut down this weekend and decided to ‘make do’ with the baccy he had rather than buy some more. this meant that come early afternoon he ran out. Even after a few hours without a cigarette he started to become short tempered, but i managed to hold my tongue and not retaliate to anything I would normally, especially as I was mindful that I am suffering from PMS at the moment. I swear if it wasn’t DVD boxsets keeping us occupied there may have been bloodshed. 😉 I am actually really proud of him for even trying as he has been smoking for over 10 years. If anyone has any advice about quitting smoking or supporting someone trying to quit it would be gratefully received.
In other news my hip has started to hurt again, not as bad as before but it is definitely the same pain in the same place. If it gets worse again then I will go back to my GP and see if anyone has any idea what it causing it. So far I just have a list of things that it isn’t. Iit is nearly 28 days since the pain started last time, so I am waiting to see if it follows the same pattern as before, over the next 5-6days, (getting gradually worse then going away for 21days) in which case it may be gynae related as fits my cycle. (TMI? sorry)
Tomorrow I plan to scour the house in search of my camera cable and if I can’t find it then i think I’ll just buy a replacement from Tesco when I go to pick up dinner, as I really need update my stash and projects page on Ravelry.

Mobile blogging

Standard

Decide to see how easy it would be to post from the wordpress app on my itouch. Typing is an acquired talent on the small keyboard but doable.
Karl survived the dentist today and they were really nice that I registered – I haven’t been to the dentist for over 10 years.
Looking forward to a day of spinning and knitting tomorrow and weather permitting photo shoots. Off to bed now to read some Flash Forward, very different to TV show but very good so far.

Monkeys, McFly and Mail

Standard

I received my Monkey Sock Swap 3 parcel at the end of last week but held of blogging until I got some batteries for my camera – which I’ve still forgotten to get, so will blog about it now and take photos when i get the batteries (hopefully tomorrow.) I received a gorgeous pair of variegated brown monkeys socks (not sure what they were made of but it is oh so soft) They are my now my favourite socks!!!!! I was also sent the Thelonious pattern with 2 skeins of Louet Gems in a lovely bright green. A really cute monkey tape measure and large tote bag with embroidery monkeys on it. Travelling along with all these goodies was ‘Dangles’ the softest and cutest cuddly monkey. He is made from a lovely soft fleece. Although his tag says he is called Dangles we have had to rename him as one of our hamsters is called Dangles. Karl already has a cuddly monkey called George, so I have called my monkey Harry!

I have been away for the past 48 hours staying at my friends house as we went off to Wembley last night to see McFly. They were awesome – I know they are not as ‘cool’ as the Foos but I believe everyone is allowed a guilty pleasure and they are mine. Apart from the really really bad organisation whilst queing outside it was a great night – my ears are still ringing so it must have been good!!

When I got home this afternoon I had 2 parcels. One from Get Knitted with some Amy Butler fabric to make Emma her christmas present, so yarn for my Winter Coffee Swap pal and some Malabrigo worsted for me!!!! Since I opened I’ve the two skeins wrapped around my neck – so soft. I also had a parcel from U-Handbag containing an Amy Butler Pattern and some metal bag notions for my laptop bag (which I plan to start over the weekend) . We have also received discs 3,4 & 5 of Season 2 of Bones from Amazon rental. This weekend is going to require so much self-control and willpower. All I will want to do is sew, knit and watch Bones when in fact what I HAVE to do is right a presentation, an essay and make a poster.

I still have two place for Pay It Forward left if anyone is interested.

The cutest smallest baby cardigan was completed (m…

Standard

The cutest smallest baby cardigan was completed (minus buttons) last night and handed over this evening. It is so small and tiny and took just under 50g Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. It was a basic top-down raglan cardigan, which believe it or not was the first time I’d knitted something that way. Having been sucessful with a mini-version I defintely plan on making something ‘proper’ size that way. I have been looking at Glampyre’s Easy V-neck Raglan for a while now. I just can’t decide what yarn I want to use, I’ve been thinking about Colinette One Zero, but am unsure on colour as I liked so many.

I have discovered a ‘new’ (well atleast to me) TV series to knit to. As yet I haven’t succumbed to the Grey’s Anatomy trend but only because we can’t get the channel where we live (i plan on buying the dvd as soon as I get some money) Anyway, the new tv series, I was looking to buy Season 1 of Medium on DVD yesterday but it wasn’t in stock, however Season 1 of Bones was. It ticked all the boxes, crime – check, science – check, David Boreanaz – Check. I thought after Angel I would never see him again. I sat up and watched the first 4 episodes and LOVE it. It is something I could watch over and over.

I must dash as am feeling tired and have to go into university tomorrow morning, hopefully I can get back my camara and post promised photos.
